A lawsuit filed Tuesday by Angelina Jolie alleges that on a 2016 flight, Brad Pitt grabbed her by the head, shook her, then choked one of their children and hit another when they tried to defend her. Details of the abuse on the private flight came in a complaint filed by Jolie the couple’s dispute over a French house and winery; co-owners that is separate from their ongoing divorce, which he filed soon after.
A representative for Pitt, who was not authorized to speak publicly, vehemently denied Jolie’s claims and called them “another repetition that only hurts the family.”
Allegations of abuse on the plane first came to light shortly after the flight, but reports were initially vague and details were kept sealed in divorce papers and investigations by the FBI and the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, which they found that no Action against Pitt was necessary.
A judge gave Pitt 50-50 custody of the children after a closed-door hearing in which the allegations were presented. But then the appeals court excluded the private judge for failure to disclose potential conflicts of interest at Jolie’s motion, overturning the decision.
More details of the allegations were revealed earlier this year when Jolie’s lawsuit against the FBI was made public over a Freedom of Information Act request.
The New York Times first reported the court filing.
The filing says that on September 14, 2016, Jolie, Pitt and their six children were traveling from the winery, Chateau Miraval, in Los Angeles.
“Pitt’s aggressive behavior began before the family even arrived at the airport, with Pitt having a confrontation with one of the children. After the flight took off, Jolie approached Pitt and asked him what was wrong,” the filing states. . “Pete accused her of being too respectful of the children and verbally assaulted her.”
Later, she says, “He pulled her into the bathroom and started yelling at her. Pitt grabbed Jolie by the head and shook her, then grabbed her shoulders and shook her again before pushing her against the bathroom wall.”
One of the children, then between the ages of 8 and 15, verbally defended Jolie, the suit says, and Pitt lashed out.
“Pete threw his child and Jolie grabbed him from behind to stop him. To get Jolie off his back, Pete threw himself backwards into the seats of the plane, injuring Jolie’s back and elbow,” it says. the file. “The children rushed in and all valiantly tried to protect each other. Before it was over, Pete choked one of the children and punched another in the face.”
The document says he then poured beer on Jolie and poured beer and red wine on the children.
