Korean RPG? Hack and slash? Out now? Yes, yes, and yes. Your dreams have come true in the form of Undecember – a new take on the classic genre that combines countless features to deliver a colossal port of a game.
In the hack-and-slash tradition, Undecember is a delightful whirlwind of brutal takedowns and subtle carnage where your character can destroy hordes of enemies in one fell swoop. A satisfying and addictive gameplay feature on its own, but Undecember has combined everything that’s good about the genre with some juicy RPG content.
Not only that, but the game takes an innovative approach to its progression, meaning we finally have an alternative to the same old grind or an obnoxious late-game OP character with nowhere to turn. With no set courses and an infinite mix of skills, December offers something truly different. The single player story itself will take you deep into the culture of Traum as you fight to defend it from the coming darkness, while co-op and boss raids remain available throughout. Let’s dig a little deeper…
A little back story
One of the biggest features of December is the rich world you’ll find yourself in when you start. Learn about the divine beings, who split into 12 when the light appeared, sharing their powers to create Trauma and raising their offspring. These offspring flourished under the care of the 12 beings, who were worshiped as gods and lived in harmony with their offspring. Sounds great, doesn’t it? Unfortunately, things have gone downhill since then, as a 13th unexpectedly burst onto the scene – the evil god Serpens.
Now, it’s time to raise your sword against the Serpens and bring the light back to a world at war with darkness.
Bigger and better
When it’s time to actually fight the Serpens, you’ll be more than ready, thanks to Undecember’s unique leveling system that allows you to keep getting stronger and stronger as the game progresses. Each enemy you defeat will add to your power as you overcome their large armies with an array of awesome weapons to match.
Undecember doesn’t believe in equipment or skill limitations, so your character will continue to grow stronger over time, able to further enhance his power with powerful equipment, armor, and weapons. Choose from slicing enemies with swords, aiming from afar with a deadly arrow, or summoning spells to aid you in your quest. Whatever your style, you can learn to take down any enemy.
It builds without limits
Additionally, Undecember has no restrictive class builds, so you won’t be forced to use a staff if you’re only a mage or if you have to meet everyone as a soldier. Instead, you can pick and choose your own style, creating a complex and diverse character that serves your own needs and interests. This unique way of doing things means you’ll be able to take out enemies in more interesting ways as the game goes on, choosing from a range of combat styles when needed.
You’ll also be able to add to these combat powers with a range of Skills and Runes. These come in a seemingly limitless number of combinations, where your character can be strengthened in a specific area or become proficient in all areas. You will be able to customize and change your Runes so that you are ready for any battle – no matter the opponent.
It plays beautifully
December is undeniably a beautiful game. The art style and animations are gorgeous, and the myriad of tiny details that enrich the environment will keep you endlessly engaged. With high-quality graphics and deeply responsive character design, every second you spend playing Undecember is a feast for the eyes.
Not to mention the gorgeous graphics of a hack-and-slash game done well, with sweeping attacks that send enemies flying in multiple directions, or powerful quick slashes made with a single blade on hundreds of enemies at once. Yes, the game is brutal and bloody, but you will always enjoy watching it unfold.
The ultimate in boss battles
Boss battles were a particular focus for the developers, who wanted these crescendo moments to include all the best elements of the game. You’ll be able to show off and outfit your player however you like, playing with your own strengths or challenging yourself, but you’ll also be able to team up with others and enjoy fast-paced combat as part of a team.
The single player campaign will allow you to explore the world and its fascinating lore, but the boss raids are the crowning glory of Undecember. These relentless, hard-hitting attacks come in the form of Chaos Dungeons and multiple boss raids, where you can find some of the most powerful loot in the game. It will be an uphill battle, but the combat response and detailed character system will really shine in the event of victory.
