Inter Miami are set to make a January move for Cristiano Ronaldo on one key condition

After asking for a move away from the Premier League side in the summer, it looks like the 37-year-old could finally get his wish in January, having started just one Premier League game this season.

As reported by the Daily Mirror, a move to MLS club Inter Miami could be on the cards as long as one of the club’s demands is met.

The Florida-based club, founded by former United player David Beckham, has already attracted superstars such as Gonzalo Higuain, who recently announced his retirement from football.

However, Ronaldo would be a different level altogether, especially with him being regarded as a truly elite player – despite his age.

Manchester United’s Ronaldo

While it is unclear whether the forward would like to move stateside, the Mirror claim there is definite interest from Inter Miami, who are currently coached by another former Red Devil in Phil Neville.

However, the outlet suggest that a move would only be possible on the condition that it would be a free transfer.

It is possible that Manchester United will demand some sort of fee, with £10m being touted as the magic number in some reports.

Miami are not expected to be Ronaldo’s only side this winter, as the race to land one of world sport’s biggest stars is sure to heat up as we approach the end of the year.

Any thoughts of Ronaldo being reinstated into Erik ten Hag’s first-choice XI were firmly extinguished last weekend as he was benched for United’s humbling 6-3 defeat by rivals Manchester City.

The Portuguese superstar didn’t play a single second, which was a clear indication of his place in the lineup as things stand.

With business notoriously hard to come by in January, it’s hard to imagine United letting Ronaldo go for free.

It has been a tumultuous return to the Premier League for him since returning to his former club in the summer of 2021.

On the face of it, 24 goals from 39 appearances last season was a more than decent performance in a poor season for United.

And yet, rumors of dressing room clashes and discontent soon began to surface, eventually leading to Ronaldo’s transfer request earlier this year.

In addition to the interest of Inter Miami, the Turkish giant Galatasaray has also been mentioned as interested.

A move there would give Ronaldo the chance to play in his beloved Champions League for another season or two, where he would have the chance to extend his goalscoring record in the European competition.
