Phasmophobia developers accused of “housing a sexual parasite” on their Discord server

Kinetic Games – the indie team behind massive ghost hunting sim Phasmophobia – has been accused of “housing a sexual parasite” on its official Discord server.

In a series of messages shared on Twitter, Dandy @ 6.2 — who clarifies that he’s “not a victim in this” but is “speaking out about a friend who’s a victim who otherwise felt he didn’t have a voice” — posts a number of incriminating messages showing that, despite being reported, the alleged “sex parasite” known as the Charcoal Salamander had not yet been removed from his “admin” role on the server.

“So who else knew that the developers of Phasmophobia are harboring a sex parasite in their official discord, keeping the admin down and refusing to take any claims against him seriously, because I sure do now,” tweeted Dandy @ 6.2.

“I won’t say much about it on behalf of the friend who is still dealing with the consequences of it all, but I will ask people not to play Phasmophobia anymore, even with the latest update coming out soon. It’s rotten to the core. ”

The Twitter thread – which began on September 28 – included correspondence with Phasmophobia lead artist cjdxn, who seemed reluctant to take action without more evidence. Allegations against admin Charcoal Salamander include sharing nudes of others on the Discord channel and making racist jokes.

Eventually, when the posts went viral and the pressure mounted, Charcoal Salamander was removed from the admin role and banned from the server.

“We recently received some news regarding one of our Discord admins sharing sensitive images and racist comments. After evaluating the evidence, we have completely removed this admin from the Discord group and will not be coming back,” cjdxn later said in statement published on the first of October.

“However, some of my words were poorly and hastily chosen. For that I would like to apologize. As seen in the public DMs, I explicitly say ‘I do not agree’ with the acts in question and I do not condone racism or sharing images Never I have not, nor will I, support the sharing of private photos, and I am truly sorry that what I said could be interpreted differently.

“However, parts of my DMs on the subject have been taken out of context and give a slightly distorted picture of what I was trying to convey,” they added. “My ‘looks like two friends in DM’ comment was not about sharing images at all, but instead a response to their conversation prior to the offer to share the image.

“I can now see how this could have been easily connected and again, my choice of words should have been more sensitive with such a sensitive subject.

“I will not allow such a situation to occur in the future and I sincerely apologize for any role I played in this situation.”

Kinetic Games recently released an updated development roadmap for its terrifying ghost hunting sim Phasmophobia, with the game’s custom difficulty feature now out this month with more on the way.

As Kinetic explained at the time, the team has now revised its early access roadmap for 2022 and beyond to “more accurately represent what we’ve achieved this year and what we plan to do moving forward” after a longer-than-expected development period The virtual reality iteration of Phasmophobia, which finally arrived in April.
