Sony increased US PS5 shipments by over 400% through September. While that doesn’t mean the shortage is over, this increase comes just in time for fans to get their hands on the console for God of War Ragnarok.
If you have been hunting for one PS5, You’re lucky. Sony’s US PS5 shipments now exceed 7 million, up +400% year-over-year. Hopefully this means that Sony has finally managed to address the supply of PS5s, which they have struggled to keep in stock since the console launched in 2020. Perhaps this is a glimpse of what’s to come.
Lots of reports of an improved PS5 deal in recent months, but no data so far. US import data confirms Sony Interactive (PlayStation) shipments in September were +400% year-over-year. Yes, you read that right. Some of these will go into inventory for GoW launch for sure. #PS5 pic.twitter.com/SvC6xTPQxsOctober 11, 2022
While these shipment numbers are a welcome surprise, they’re not out of thin air. As for the stock, according to the analyst Statistics, PS5 shipments and sales are steadily increasing from quarter to quarter. For example, PS5 sales increased from 2.3 million units in the first months of 2021 to 3.9 million units between July and October of the same year.
The supply of PS5s looked worse than it was due to the sharp drop in supplies we saw at the beginning of 2021. Furthermore, the situation was made worse by the discontinuation of PS4 Proalong with the high demand for the console.
Up for grabs
Like I said, the PS5 refreshes are great news for everyone who’s been waiting for a new console for the past few years. So, how do you choose between these beauties? The best way is to monitor the page we have created PS5 refresh updates to get all the latest news on the console.
If you live in the US, it will be easier to get your hands on a PS5 thanks to a massive increase in shipments to the country in September – there are already reports of more PS5s appearing on supermarket shelves. This increase in inventory also means we may see some Black Friday PS5 Deals, too, which would be the first time we’ve seen the consoles discounted – with hardware in short supply, retailers haven’t felt any pressure to drop prices. More inventory for less, it’s the dream.
I saw my first one in the wild last weekend. It took me a long time not to get it 😂 pic.twitter.com/ghPfWcOSoJOctober 11, 2022
Unfortunately, we may have to wait a little longer across the pond in Europe. So far, there have been no major reports of PS5 shipments to Europe. However, with Black Friday and God of War RagnarokIts release will be available soon, Sony will have to increase the supply to meet the demand.
Ragnarok
Instead of the end of the world, it looks like God of War Ragnarok may have brought us more PS5s. It might just be good timing, but Sony should be happy to have so many consoles on the shelves ahead of its biggest game release of the year.
It’s been a quiet year for Sony. His biggest release was Horizon Zero Dawn West throughout February, since then, the only major exclusive has been The Last of Us Part I, an (excellent) remaster.
If Sony is in fact bringing back the PS5s for Ragnarok’s release, then that’s an indication of how big a release they expect the game to be. Hype can be deadly, so I try to avoid getting too excited about games before they’re released. But I can’t help it either. I think I may have failed one of my holy rules as I am now being made to say God of War Ragnarok.
