Surprise Terraria crossover excites fans of sandbox games

A surprise Terraria crossover discovered in the Terraria 1.4.4 Labor of Love update excites fans by bringing together two of the best sandbox games on PC. While some collaborations like the Core Keeper Terraria crossover were included in the Terraria Labor of Love code notes, some others have been kept secret. Hence, consider this a airfoil warning for this particular addition to one of the best crafting games out there – though we’ll be careful not to give anything else too important away.

This particular indie crossover actually features two separate pets to collect, thanks to the beloved farming game Stardew Valley. That’s right, two of the biggest indie sandbox favorites have finally collided in Terraria’s latest update, and you can get your hands on a Junimo pet as well as ConcernedApe’s iconic rare Blue Chicken.

To get your hands on Junimo, one of the cheerful forest spirits found in the Stardew Valley Community Center and helping the player end the efforts of the encroaching Joja Corporation, you’ll first need to go fishing. If you’re lucky, you might snag an empty Joja Cola can – this you can take to the Dryad NPC, who will tell you that “This unnatural drink has a connection to another world” and offer to purify it. Doing so opens a star-shaped portal through which you can actually glimpse Stardew Valley itself, and awards you a Stardrop fruit which can then be used to summon Junimo.

The other pet is a bit easier to get your hands on as you can buy it from Terraria’s Traveling Merchant for 25 gold. It’s a Blue Chicken Egg that, shockingly, summons a Blue Chicken pet to your side. The tooltip even notes that “The name tag says ‘Shane’, a nod to the fact that the rare Blue Chicken in Stardew Valley can only be obtained after becoming close friends with local resident Shane.

It remains to be seen what other secrets Terraria’s Labor of Love update holds – there’s so much in the patch that, while it looks like most of the hidden secrets have already been revealed, there’s likely to be plenty more to discover. In particular, additions like the new biome and liquid Terraria have a surprising potential to hide even more tricks up their sleeve.
