The four players Manchester United could sign to replace Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo’s future is yet to be resolved after the summer’s storyline saw the Portuguese remain at Old Trafford despite a transfer request.

In July, Ronaldo shocked United to the core by reportedly asking the club to sell him if a suitable offer was made. However, the club have always been adamant that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner was not for sale.

Ronaldo’s future was once again the talk of the town after he was left on the bench during the Red Devils’ embarrassing 6-3 defeat by Manchester City on Sunday.

It has been reported that as a result of his derby snub, Ronaldo will now look to find a new club in January.

According to the Daily Express, United could have four options to replace the 37-year-old.

Victor Osimhen – Napoli

The Nigeria international was linked with a move to Old Trafford in the summer, but a move never materialized as United were not prepared to meet Napoli’s massive £100m price tag.

Despite his side’s good start in 22/23, Osimhen has struggled to find his best form, scoring just twice in Serie A.

Napoli are currently top of their Champions League group after convincing wins over Liverpool, Rangers and Ajax.

In Serie A it is at the top of the table with 20 points.

Brentford star Toney could be an option for United as the 26-year-old already has Premier League experience.

On the player’s side, he could be tempted to move to a top club like United to boost his chances with England.

After scoring 14 goals last season, Toney is in fine form this season. So far he has five goals in eight appearances.

With age well on his side, Toney could prove to be a shrewd signing for Erik ten Hag.

Cody Gakpo – PSV Eindhoven

The talented Dutchman was targeted by United in the summer along with Ajax winger Anthony, who eventually signed on deadline day.

It was reported that Gakpo was not an alternative to Antoni and United planned to sign both players. However, Gakpo remained at PSV despite late offers from Southampton.

The 22-year-old has put in some impressive performances for Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side. Gakpo has scored 10 goals and nine assists in 14 games in all competitions.

Former Chelsea player Abraham has established himself as a fan favorite since his move from Stamford Bridge to Rome.

Having helped Jose Mourinho’s side win the Europa Conference League last season, he will be determined to play a part in lifting Roma further up the Serie A table.

Despite declaring himself happy in Italy, an offer of around £80m could tempt Roma into business.

With his World Cup chances fading after scoring just twice this season, a return to the Premier League could boost his future chances in England.
